New Brunswick

Currency:

  • I USD = 1.31 Canadian Dollars (as of October 2019)

  • Similar price as traveling in the USA.

Who to Travel With:

  • I traveled here solo, but you can go in groups too!

  • It is a safe province!

What not to Miss:

  • Hopewell Rocks & Bay of Fundy: my favorite part of my Eastern Canadian road trip!

  • Kayak at Hopewell Rocks through all the rocks at high tide and then walk on the ocean floor through those same rocks at low tide – it’s an amazing experience!

  • Mudflats at Hopewell Rocks Park

  • Alma town and Alma Lobster Shop (great lobster rolls!)

  • Fundy National Park:

    • Dickson Falls: only takes 30-45 min, loop trail- very pretty & lush, walk through the forest along the creek! Plus there is a waterfall!

    • Swim in the outdoor heated salt water pool that overlooks the Bay of Fundy- such a cool experience!

    • If I had more time, I would have done more hiking in this national park!

  • St. Martin’s:

    • Sea caves- check tide schedule and go during low tide so that you get to walk inside of the caves!

    • Don’t miss the world-famous seafood chowder here! Very thick and creamy!

  • St. John’s city

    • Reversing Falls: happens twice daily at high tide (the Fundy waters roar into the Saint John River, causing a titanic clash/ see it from the rooftop skywalk- the steel and glass observation platform extends 28 feet out over the river (pay an admission fee) or from the overlook (free, park at the same parking lot for the observation platform but walk down some stairs for a good view of the reversing falls!)

  • Lepreau Falls

  • Fredericton: capital of New Brunswick

  • St. Andrews city: Blockhouse National Historic Site

  • Ministers Island: drive across the ocean floor at low tide from St. Andrews to get to Ministers Island – one of the coolest experiences!

    • There are a lot of historical museums and buildings on Ministers Island to explore!

Tips:

  • Eat seafood every day! It’s always fresh from the coast!

  • Check tide levels before planning your trip! The tide schedule changes every day, so remember to double-check the tide levels the day before you plan to go!

  • Do not miss Hopewell Rocks and the Bay of Fundy National Park!

  • Make sure to be at Hopewell Rocks for high and low tide- this place has the world’s highest tide (up to 46 feet high)! I only was there for about 3 hours and I saw both high and low tides! It’s amazing to watch.

  • I highly recommend kayaking at the Bay of Fundy for high tide at Hopewell Rocks then walking on the ocean floor through those same rocks at low tide- that was the highlight of my whole road trip!!

    • I went through Baymount Adventure Tours & loved it!

  • You could spend many days just in the Bay of Fundy National Park if you wanted to! There is so much to do and see & so many hiking trails! If I had more time, I would have spent it here hiking more!

  • Fundy National Park: $7.80 Canadian admission fee/ this national park closes at 8pm with locked gates so you better be out before 8pm or be prepared to stay the night!

  • Explore Ministers Island after you drive across the ocean floor at low tide from St. Andrews to the Island! One of the coolest experiences! $15 Canadian free to explore Ministers Island

    • Check the tide schedule the day before, because you can only be on this Island for a few hours each day during low tide!

    • If you love historical museums/ sites, spend some time exploring these at Ministers Island!

Vaccines: no extra vaccines needed as long as you are up to date. Ask your doctor.
